13-Year-Old Student Commits Suicide ‘After Being Accused Of Exam Malpractice’

Family members of a 13-year-old student have been thrown in a state of mourning, after the teenager committed suicide.

According to reports, the Grade 7 student allegedly committed suicide after being bullied, and accused of malpractice during a test in her school.

Daily Report Nigeria gathers that the student, identified as Mbali Mlaba attended Vulindlela Primary School in Harrismith, Thabo Mofusanyane District in Free State, South Africa.

Preliminary investigations revealed by the spokesperson of the provincial department of education, Howard Ndaba, Mlaba was bullied by a classmate, who accused her of cheating during a test, leading to her commiting suicide.

Ndaba said;

According to reports, Mbali’s mother found a note detailing the reasons behind her daughter’s extreme decision,” said Ndaba.

“The learner had expressed fear of her classmate, who had assaulted and bullied her in the previous term, and had even requested to be transferred to another school.”

“The department recognises the severe consequences of bullying on learners’ well-being and mental health. We are committed to providing support to learners and educators to prevent such incidents and promote a culture of kindness, empathy, and respect,”

He added that help has been provided to teachers and students affected by the news.

The department urges parents, learners, and the community to work together in creating a safe and supportive learning environment,”
