At least 130 golfers have converged on Akure, the Ondo State capital, for the 10th Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria (LGAN) Western Zone Golf Championship.
The four-day event, themed “Golfing with the Stars”, is holding at The Crosscreek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure North LGA, and features 60 female and 70 male golfers from across the country.
Vice President of LGAN Western Zone, Evelyn Balogun, said the tournament aims to encourage more women to embrace golf while promoting physical fitness, stress relief, and outdoor recreation.

“Ladies from handicap 0 to 28 will tee off on Friday, followed by cultural and social interactions. Day two continues on Saturday with a disco night, while the final on Sunday will feature 45 ladies alongside male golfers from handicap 0 to 28,” she said. Balogun praised the state government for its support, adding that the event would end with an award ceremony to honour winners, sponsors, and supporters.

First Vice President of LGAN, Dr. Lami Ahmed explained that the tournament was the first time a ladies’ open golf event would be held in Ondo.
He added that the championship would boost the local economy, foster unity, and promote tourism.
Founder of Crosscreek Golf Club, Mr Sola Abidakun, and Club Captain, Mr. Isaac Shedowo, welcomed participants, projecting that the tournament could inject over ₦200 million into the state’s economy.
