Abducted Priest, Driver Regain Freedom After 25 Days In Captivity | Daily Report Nigeria

News reaching Daily Report Nigeria reveals that an abducted priest, as well as his driver have regained freedom.

According to reports, the duo were abducted after setting off for a journey, but never made it to their destination.

The priest, identified as Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, an Anglican priest, and retired Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi as well as his driver had set out on a trip to the Umuchu community in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State when they were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on December 7, 2024.

St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Nnewi, confirmed their release in a Facebook post on Thursday, January 2, 2025.

Also confirming the release to journalist, a high-ranking officer in the Diocese said;

We rejoice at the wonderful news that His Grace, Most Rev. Prof. Godwin Okpala, retired Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, has been safely released from captivity along with his driver. This is a heartfelt New Year’s gift to the entire Anglican Communion and Anambra State at large. We await the official response of the church,”
