Abia Govt Reveals When Civil Servants Will Start Receiving N70,000 minimum Wage | Daily Report Nigeria

Abia State government has announced that civil servants in the state will receive the new N70,000 national minimum wage from October 2024.

This was made public by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu at the Government House Umuahia on Tuesday while addressing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Kanu also announced that nine new roads have been approved for construction and reconstruction in Abia State, saying that the projects will be spread across the three senatorial zones.

He added that two road projects at Afara-Isi Court and Ikarike Street in Umuahia have been completed.

The commissioner further disclosed that Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has taken bold steps to sanitize Lokpanta Market and its abattoir, adding that Isuikwuato and Arochukwu abattoirs would also be cleaned up.

According to him, the sanitization of the three abattoirs was to ensure that Abia people are not infected by diseases.

The commissioner further disclosed that mountains of refuse that characterized Umuahia and Aba before the coming of the present administration have been removed to give the cities clean looks.

Speaking about the new minimum wage, Abia State Commissioner for Labour and productivity, Sunny Onwuma said “The governor has agreed to pay the minimum wage of N70,000. Grade level 1 Step 1, N70,000.”
