Veteran Nigerian actress Binta Ayo Mogaji has advised women over the age of 35 to consider having children outside of marriage if they desire to become mothers.
The 60-year-old actress shared her thoughts during an interview on Oyinmomo TV, where she discussed topics such as marriage, motherhood, and societal pressures. Mogaji, who had her first child at the age of 40, encouraged single women in their mid-thirties and beyond to prioritize motherhood over societal expectations about marriage.
In the interview, Ayo Mogaji suggested that if a woman has a partner who is not ready for marriage but is willing to have a child, she should go ahead with motherhood even if the man is not prepared to take responsibility for the child.

She explained that as women get older, societal perceptions around their age may make it more challenging for them to find a husband, and by the time they do, it could delay their opportunity to raise children.
Ayo Mogaji further elaborated on how women in this situation could face age-related stigma when searching for a husband, with advice often given to men to marry younger women. This, she said, could result in women missing out on the chance to experience motherhood or even becoming grandmothers.
She urged women who are able to care for a child on their own to take control of their future if they desire children, suggesting adoption as another option if they are unable to find a partner to father a child. Her message was clear: if a woman longs to be a mother, she should pursue it regardless of whether or not marriage is part of the equation.
