Anxiety As Damagum Camp, Anti-Wike Govs Meet Today | Daily Report Nigeria

The internal strife within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated as governors convened today, Monday, October 14, to address the contentious leadership battle over the acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.

This meeting comes in the wake of the emergence of a rival faction led by Alhaji Yayari Mohammed, complicating an already fractured party landscape.

Sources revealed that the primary agenda for the gathering is to seek a resolution between the Damagum camp, allied with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and the faction supporting Mohammed.

Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, is reportedly at the forefront of the push to oust Damagum, rallying six other governors to his cause.

A party insider disclosed, “The governors will review actions taken by both factions and discuss the recent suspensions that have further deepened divisions. They must decide whether to uphold or reverse these suspensions, which will directly influence the October 24 National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.”

While the party remains split, with figures like Bauchi Governor opposing Wike’s allies, pro-Damagum supporters, including Governors Makinde, Fintiri, and Mutfwang, are advocating for unity. The source emphasized the need for candid discussions to clarify leadership roles within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

“The aim is to establish a framework that addresses the concerns of both sides, enabling a recommitment to party leadership ahead of the NEC meeting,” the insider noted.
