Comedian Basketmouth has expressed his frustration over Nigeria’s economic situation, explaining why he believes the country will never improve.

In a widely shared interview with AFRIMMA, the comedian pointed to the nation’s persistent economic hardship, inflation, and the devaluation of the naira as indicators of a bleak future.

Reflecting on the depreciation of the naira since 1970, he said, “When I was born, it was one naira to a dollar. Now, it’s N1600 to one dollar. It has never gotten better; every time it changes, we hear ‘E go better,’ but it keeps getting worse.”

He further criticized the government’s policies, highlighting how the cost of essential services, like passport renewals, has skyrocketed, making it harder for Nigerians to cope.

Though sounding disillusioned, Basketmouth added a note of sarcasm, saying, “It’s not like I’ve given up hope. Maybe one day, Nigeria will get better. Let’s all believe in that pipe dream. It’s over.”
