President Joe Biden is scheduled to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday, marking an important milestone in the peaceful transition of power.

The meeting, set for 11:00 a.m. local time (1600 GMT) in the Oval Office, comes as President Biden prepares to step down in January 2025.

The two leaders are expected to discuss vital matters to ensure a smooth transfer of power and address any challenges before Trump’s formal inauguration in January.

In a show of respect for democratic values, President Biden had earlier extended personal congratulations to Trump on his victory as soon as the election results were finalized.

Trump secured 291 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 needed to win the presidency, while his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, garnered 222 votes.

Biden pledged last Thursday to collaborate closely with Trump to ensure a seamless handover. The White House emphasized that the forthcoming discussions would focus on essential issues related to the transition process.

The meeting also sets the stage for Trump’s inauguration as president, scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025, marking the official start of his return to the White House after an unsuccessful reelection bid in 2020.

Trump, along with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, will now work with their transition team to coordinate the handover from the Biden administration leading up to the inauguration day.

This meeting is a significant part of the customary transition process, ensuring that both leaders work together to manage the transfer of responsibilities and safeguard the nation’s stability.
