Bobrisky: Reps Summon Everyone Linked to Bribery Allegations

2 months ago 28

In light of the House of Representatives’ resolution to probe bribery allegations against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Joint Committees have summoned the commission’s chairman, Ola Olukoyode.

In a letter dated September, 27, 2024, the committee requested the presence of Olukoyode and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service on Monday, along with all officers implicated in the allegations.

The bribery accusations against the EFCC and the Nigeria Correctional Service emerged from a viral social media voice conversation involving Idris Okuneye, a crossdresser, Bobrisky was sentenced earlier this year to six months in prison for abusing the naira.

The conversation suggested that Bobrisky paid N15 million to the EFCC to drop initial money laundering charges against him and that he was housed in a VIP facility instead of a regular prison.

Furthermore, the House Committee summoned social media influencer Martins Otse, known online as Very Dark Man, who released the voice recording.

Meanwhile, Folakemi Falana, daughter of renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana has strongly denied bribery and corruption allegations involving her father and her brother, Falz, linked to Bobrisky’s reported prison sentence.

In an Instagram post, Folakemi addressed the claims, which originated from accusations made by Very Dark Man, calling them baseless and defamatory.

She said:

Two different letters from Falana & Falana on behalf of our clients Femi Falana SAN and Folarin Falz Falana giving VDM 24 hours to retract his extremely defamatory statements or risk legal action.

“It’s even crazier that all it takes is for a ridiculous character like VDM to accuse my dad and Falz of bribery, corruption, and perversion of the course of justice and you suddenly forget who they are and what they stand for.

Folakemi asserted that rumours circulating online, amplified by social media activist VDM, falsely suggest her father and brother were complicit in helping Bobrisky secure favourable treatment while in prison.

She also claimed they were linked to an alleged attempt to bribe officers for a presidential pardon, rumours she has categorically debunked.

Folakemi clarified that Femi Falana has never had any communication with Bobrisky, either directly or through an intermediary, and that her brother, Falz, was only approached by Bobrisky for financial assistance to secure a VIP spot while in prison.
