  • Afenifere Chieftain Pa Ayo Adebanjo has passed away at the age of 96.

  • He died peacefully on Friday morning at his Lekki residence in Lagos.

  • Adebanjo was a renowned nationalist, elder statesman, distinguished lawyer, and national leader of Afenifere.

The family of Pa Ayo Adebanjo has announced his passing, describing him as a “foremost nationalist, elder statesman, distinguished lawyer, very distinct politician, apostle of true federalism, former organising secretary of Action Group and the national leader of Afenifere.”

According to the family statement, Adebanjo died peacefully on Friday morning at his Lekki residence in Lagos at the age of 96.

He is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

The family praised Adebanjo’s commitment to fighting for truth, equity, and justice, saying, “We will forever cherish his commitment to fighting for truth, equity and justice.

His belief and struggle for a truly independent and progressive Nigeria was total and this he fought for until he breathed his last breath.”

Former Nigeria Military Head of State, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, has called on politicians seeking public offices come 2023 not to negotiate the unity of the country for anything.

He condemned the current administration over its lopsided appointments.
