McCarthy claims Ten Hag preferred to work with the players he had signed, which is why he gave Antony numerous chances and overlooked Diallo.

“Tactically, when we set up, the manager felt that Antony was the best, better player for the job that he wanted because he knew Antony from Ajax. He was his player, so he invested in him, and the club supported him,” he said on Podcast and Chill Network via MEN.

The South African legend explained Diallo was also a victim of the many attacking options Ten Hag had.

“Someone had to miss out, and unfortunately for Amad, the manager goes with the player he thinks is probably more capable for those types of games tactically, defensively and attacking.”
