The Bauchi State Government has approved a total of N793,626,000 for the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration fees for secondary school students across the state.

The funding also includes the registration fees for students sitting for the National Business and Technical Examination Board (NABTEB) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS).

The Commissioner for Education,Dr. Mohammed Lawal revealed this in a briefing with journalists, confirming that the approved amount will cover the registration costs for 23,294 students sitting for the NECO exams, 1,834 students for NABTEB, 282 students for NBAIS, and 5,000 students for the UTME exams.

Dr. Lawal emphasised that only registered and indexed students will benefit from the initiative and warned school principals against issuing index numbers to ineligible students.

“Any school official found guilty of breaching this directive will face disciplinary action in line with civil service rules,” he stated.

The decision is part of the Bauchi state government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that as many students as possible are able to access national exams without financial barriers, supporting their academic progress and future opportunities.
