President Bola Tinubu had a health challenge he was worried about before the 2023 presidential election, elder statesman Bisi Akande has revealed.
Akande while speaking in an interview with Edmund Obilo on a YouTube channel said in the build up of the 2023 elections, he spoke to Tinubu about running for presidency.
He, however, stated that Tinubu who was skeptical about contesting raised some issues like lack of funds and his health challenge.
According to Akande, Tinubu was worried that he did not have the funds needed for anyone to scale through a presidential election campaign and other processes.
He said he did his best and convinced him to contest amid all the challenges he listed.
“I told him, ‘We don’t want you to be president because of you. You are unimportant in this matter,” Akande said.
Most importantly, Akande said Tinubu as of then was worried about his arthritis which he felt was a major setback for him in the pursuit to become the president of Nigeria.
Akande noted, “He later asked me that Baba, you now say I should run. What about this, my leg and I assured him to go and treat it that it will heal in six months.”
