Mrs. Gill Lever, OBE, the British Deputy High Commissioner, has praised the Enugu State government for its efforts to promote digital literacy among public office holders.
Her commendation came during the graduation ceremony for participants of the Enugu Civil Servants Digital Literacy Program—a flagship initiative designed to equip civil servants with the essential digital skills necessary for enhancing public service delivery.
In her address, the Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the significant impact of this transformative programme, emphasising that improving digital literacy among civil servants is crucial for enhancing public service effectiveness.
She noted that as governments worldwide embrace digital solutions to bolster efficiency, Enugu State, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mbah, is demonstrating a strong commitment to digital transformation in governance.
Furthermore, Mrs. Lever stressed the importance of closing the global digital literacy gap, particularly for women. She commended the programme’s inclusivity, which has empowered a substantial number of female civil servants, ensuring equitable access to the digital tools and knowledge essential for success in today’s technology-driven world.
This initiative is spearheaded by the Enugu SME Center, which remains at the forefront of digital skill development, innovation, and capacity building for Enugu’s workforce.
Arinze Chilo-Offiah, the Special Adviser on MSMEs & Digital Economy and DG of the Enugu SME Center, stated that through strategic partnerships and programmes like this, the Enugu SME Center plays a pivotal role in preparing civil servants, entrepreneurs, and businesses for the challenges of a digitally-driven economy.
He added, “With the continued support of the British Government, Enugu is setting a benchmark for digital transformation within the public sector, fostering a modern, efficient, and citizen-centric civil service.
“This initiative aligns with Governor Peter Mbah’s administration’s strategic vision to digitise governance, improve efficiency, and position Enugu as a preferred destination for innovation and investment.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Gill Lever OBE for her unwavering support and commitment to strengthening bilateral collaboration between the UK and Enugu State. Together, with the Enugu SME Center leading digital empowerment initiatives, we are building a future where digital innovation enhances civil service, accelerates governance, and improves service delivery for Ndi Enugu!”
