With a recent tweet on his official X handle (previously Twitter), Demola Olarewaju, former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s special assistant for digital media strategy, has provoked controversy. Olarewaju blasted in the post attempts to draw parallels between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a political legend and renowned Yoruba leader.
Olarewaju wrote, “any true Yoruba comparing Tinubu to Awolowo is further proof of the moral corruption that Tinubu has brought to our ethnicity—neither Tinubu himself nor any of his garrulous aides would dare say such. Yorubas do not measure honor in wealth or political achievement but in Omoluabi.
He further stated that, “it’s like saying Hushpuppi is an icon compared to Solarin because the imprisoned fellow is richer than Solarin ever was: that would be a blatant erosion of ethnic values that no true-born Yoruba would ever think in the privacy of their thoughts, not to mention saying it publicly.”
