Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 37 suspected internet fraudsters, popularly referred to as “Yahoo Boys,” in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.
The arrests occurred during a sting operation at Commissioners’ Quarters, Dr. J. O. Ukwutinife Close, in the Ifite area of Awka.
EFCC disclosed this in a terse statement on its X handle on Wednesday.
The anti-graft agency said all the suspects were male, saying their arrest followed intelligence linking them to fraudulent internet activities.
Items recovered from them include six exotic cars, laptops and mobile phones.
It stated that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Further investigations into the suspects’ activities are expected to determine the extent of their involvement in internet fraud and other related crimes.
