Members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly have unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the Speaker, Adeoye Aribasoye.

The members described as baseless and laughable insinuations in a publication that a clique outside the parliament was scheming to remove the House leadership, saying that a speaker elected by the members could not be unseated by faceless outsiders.

According to a statement in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, by the Special Adviser (Media) to the Speaker, Babajide Agbeyo, the Majority Leader, Tolulope Ige,  speaking at a plenary session, said, “Members have been able to again convince themselves that the House is harmonious, transparent and cerebral.”

Agbeyo stated that the majority leader consequently moved a motion for a vote of confidence in the speaker, which was unanimously embraced with loud and standing ovation by all the members.

Overwhelmed by the affirmation of support, Aribasoye said, “The unity, uniformity, trust and drive for development and parliamentary dignity constantly displayed by the Seventh Assembly is impressive and legendary.”

He likened the vote of confidence passed to a renewal of the social contract he signed with his colleagues when they elected him Speaker on June 6 2023, calling on them to ensure the continuity of the towering achievements of the Assembly.

The speaker hailed Governor Biodun Oyebanji for believing in the assembly leadership and his consistent commitment to giving the legislature the respect it deserves.
