BREAKING: Ex-FCT Minister, Jeremiah Useni, passes away at 82

Retired Lieutenant General Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under General Sani Abacha’s administration, has passed away.

Useni, fondly known as “Jerry Boy,” died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.

His death was announced by the Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr. Gyang Bere. The Governor expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a significant blow to Plateau State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and the nation.

Governor Mutfwang praised General Useni’s illustrious career and unwavering commitment to service. He highlighted Useni’s roles as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and FCT Minister. He also noted the late General’s contributions to peace and security in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State.

After retiring from the military, Useni ventured into politics, serving as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and later representing Plateau South Senatorial District in the Senate under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.

Governor Mutfwang commended Useni’s legacy of selflessness, leadership, and dedication to the well-being of others, emphasizing that his impact would continue to inspire generations.

He extended his condolences to Useni’s family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all who mourn him, praying for God’s comfort and strength during this time of loss.
