BREAKING: FG Declares Public Holidays for Christmas, New Year Celebrations

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark the celebrations of Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year, respectively.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, confirmed the declaration.

The minister extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, encouraging them to embrace the season’s message of love, peace, and unity.

“The Christmas season offers an important opportunity for spiritual reflection and national renewal.

As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, we are reminded of the values of kindness, goodwill, and unity,” Tunji-Ojo remarked.

He also emphasized the need for Nigerians to reflect on the importance of fostering family and community ties, calling on all citizens to uphold peace and work together for the prosperity of the nation.

In his statement, the Minister stressed the significance of the festive period as a time to strengthen the bonds that unite Nigerians, urging them to commit to the country’s peace, unity, and development.

He added, “While we celebrate the joy of Christmas and the coming of the new year, we must remain dedicated to the progress of our nation, so that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration brings about a prosperous 2025.”
