The Federal Government is planning to establish ranches in seven states as part of the 2025 budget.

According to Nigerian Tribune, the new Ministry of Livestock Development will oversee this initiative, with Lagos, Ogun, Imo, Cross River, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi states selected for the projects.

A total of N315 million has been earmarked for the ranches, along with additional provisions for poultry domestication in Delta, Abia, and Bauchi states, costing N150 million.

The ministry’s budget includes a capital allocation of N10 billion and N1.8 billion for overhead costs.

To address issues between farmers and herders, N86 million has been set aside for stakeholder engagements and conflict resolution mechanisms across various levels of governance.

Other measures include solar-powered infrastructure for livestock communities and grazing reserves.

This development follows the creation of the ministry earlier in 2024, aimed at resolving longstanding disputes and modernizing livestock practices nationwide.
