A potential disaster was prevented in Dutse, Jigawa State capital, by firefighters and security personnel.

The tanker, which was fully loaded with fuel, was attempting to unload at the Kashato filling station near the State Fire Service head office, adjacent to the Immigration Office headquarters, when a strange sound was heard, followed by smoke billowing from the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that people were buying meat nearby when they heard the sound and saw the smoke, prompting them to flee for their lives.

Fortunately, the fire service and security personnel responded quickly, blocking all roads leading to the station to prevent a repeat of a similar incident that occurred in Majia town months prior.

The situation was brought under control without any loss of life or casualties, thanks to the efforts of the fire personnel and security officials.

An anonymous filling station attendant expressed gratitude that the tanker did not explode, commending the fire service officers and security personnel for their prompt action.

This incident comes on the heels of a devastating tanker explosion in Suleja, Niger State, which occurred last week on January 18, 2025, killing at least 98 people and injuring 69 others.

An eyewitness recounted to our reporter that they were purchasing meat near the filling station when a strange noise was followed by smoke engulfing the area, prompting people to flee for their lives before the fire service arrived.

One Alhaji Musbahu Basirka praised the concerted efforts of responders, who prevented the tanker from exploding, while security personnel sealed off roads leading to the station to avoid a repeat of the Majia town incident.

Although fire service officials and station owners were unavailable for comment, a filling station attendant, speaking anonymously, expressed gratitude that the tanker did not explode, averting a potential tragedy.

They commended the fire service and security personnel for controlling the situation.
