Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration has approved an impressive sum of N8.2 billion to fund 15 pivotal development projects in Kano State.

The approval was made during the 24th Executive Council Meeting held at the Kano Government House, as announced by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday.

According to the breakdown of the approvals, N2.7 billion will be dedicated to the construction of four-classroom blocks across all 44 local government areas in Kano, enhancing the state’s educational capacity and ensuring better access to quality learning for its youth.

Other critical allocations include N2.3 billion for the ongoing dualization of the Government House Roundabout to Lodge Road.

Also, N1.9 billion has been earmarked for the remodeling of the Africa House Conference Hall, reinforcing the state’s ability to host international and regional engagements.

Governor Yusuf’s leadership was also hailed for its focus on addressing the state’s pressing energy needs, with N1.2 billion allocated for the procurement of 479,000 liters of diesel and N790 million to settle liabilities with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

In terms of sustainable infrastructure, the state has committed N482.8 million for solar-powered streetlights along the 5km dualized road network in Dawakin Tofa, marking a significant step toward greener energy solutions.

The allocation for 300 motorcycles for the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KANRDA) will further enhance the state’s extension services, empowering farm managers and rural communities.

“The focus on these projects is a testament to the administration’s resolve to make Kano a model of infrastructural excellence, with a dedicated eye on improving the quality of life for our people,” said Governor Yusuf.

The Executive Council has also mandated the establishment of a Project Monitoring Committee.

The committee, chaired by the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, will oversee the timely and effective implementation of all approved projects, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality.

Governor Yusuf’s efforts have also been lauded by educational stakeholders. The Yar’gaya Education Development Forum (YEDFO) honoured the governor with an award for his outstanding contributions to the development of the Yar’gaya community.

Furthermore, Bayero University Kano (BUK), led by Vice Chancellor Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, issued a letter of appreciation for the governor’s resolution of a 40-year-long land dispute, which had impeded the university’s expansion.

“As a government, we are focused on laying a strong foundation for the sustainable development of the state, with a clear focus on education, renewable energy, and infrastructure,” Yusuf added.
