Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has disbursed N400 million to 10 community interest groups.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Kano Agro-Climatic Resilience Landscape (ACreSAL) in collaboration with the World Bank, seeks to catalyze agricultural value chain development in the state.
Speaking during the disbursement ceremony held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of judiciously utilizing the funds.
“I urge the beneficiaries to make the best judicial use of the fund, to enable other teeming youth across the state to benefit from the ACReSAL programme,” he said.
Each of the 10 community interest groups received N40 million, with individual beneficiaries expected to receive at least N1 million as start-up capital for agricultural value chain businesses.
The governor explained that the programme is designed to register community interest groups and farmers’ cooperatives in selected areas for climatic resilience businesses.
He charged the state Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, to develop more strategic programmes to ensure environmentally friendly sustainability.
In his welcome address, Dr. Hashim urged the beneficiaries to utilize the revolving fund effectively, disclosing that international donor agencies are willing to support the state if the project succeeds.
The National Coordinator of the ACReSAL programme, Alhaji Abdulhamid Umar, expressed gratitude to the state government for its partnership and commitment to eradicating redundancy among its youth.
