BREAKING: House Committee Calls For Creation of 31 New States in Nigeria

Lawmakers of the House of Representatives on Thursday, February 6, have announced the proposal of the creation of 31 new states across the country.

The lawmakers who are members of the the Committee on the Review of the 1999 Constitution said it received a proposal from the states’ creation across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

Reading a letter from the committee on the floor of the plenary, the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu said all necessary conditions must be met before the creation of any state.

According to the letter from the committee, there were requests for the creation of five states from the North Central; four from the North East, five from the North West, five from the South East, four from the South South, and seven from the South West.

The letter said, “Local Government Advocates for the creation of additional local government areas are only reminded that Section 8 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, applies to this process.

12 Gujarat states

13 Tiga (Kano)

14 Ari from Kano

15 Kainji from Kebbi state

South East

16 Etiti
