BREAKING: How FG Plans To Solve Suspension of US HIV Funding

2 hours ago 2

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) has reassured Nigerians that HIV treatment and support will continue, despite the temporary halt of US funding.

This comes after US President Donald Trump ordered a 90-day suspension of HIV funding, affecting Nigeria and 54 other countries.

However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has approved an emergency waiver, allowing continued access to HIV treatment in Nigeria.

Currently, PEPFAR funds 90% of Nigeria’s HIV treatment, supporting two million Nigerians living with the virus.

While acknowledging the crucial role of international aid, NACA’s Director General, Dr Temitope Ilori, stated that the Nigerian government will strengthen domestic funding to ensure long-term sustainability.

NACA urged state governors, private sector partners, and policymakers to collaborate in securing Nigeria’s HIV response.

The agency also reassured patients that treatment remains available at service centres across the country.
