Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Monday, unveiled an ambitious plan to generate 63,360 jobs for the youth in the state’s garment industry, covering all 44 local government areas.

The announcement, made during the official reopening of the garment industry cluster in Kura Local Government Area, promises to mark a significant turning point in the state’s economic and youth empowerment strategy.

Governor Yusuf, who framed the reopening of the garment clusters as the fulfillment of a key campaign promise, revealed that the newly revitalized project would provide employment opportunities across the state.

“What we are witnessing now is the fulfillment of a campaign promise. With this initiative, we aim to create at least 63,360 jobs annually in the garment industry. Beneficiaries will earn an average monthly income of seventy thousand naira (₦70,000),” the governor stated.

The garment clusters, initially set up during Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration between 2011 and 2015, are set to revitalize the local economy by engaging Kano’s youth in the burgeoning garment sector.

Governor Yusuf also took the opportunity to address concerns about the security of assets within the clusters, issuing a stern warning to those involved in the theft of machinery.

He stressed that such unpatriotic actions would not be tolerated and vowed to ensure the safety of the assets critical to the success of the garment industry.

Prominent figures such as Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi of the Dangote Business School and Alhaji Sa’id Dattijo Adhama praised the governor’s efforts, highlighting the economic and social significance of the garment project.

They described it as a game-changer for youth empowerment and a major boost to Kano’s economic development.
