The Kano State government has allocated a total of N2.5 billion for quarterly mass weddings across all 44 local government areas of the state in 2025.
Musa Shanono, the Commissioner for Planning and Budget, disclosed this during a press briefing on the 2025 budget, which was recently passed by the State House of Assembly.
Shanono explained that the government has set aside N91.32 billion for governance and service delivery programs, including the mass wedding initiative. The goal of this program is to promote social responsibility, transparency, and human rights, while creating a fair and sustainable society that improves the living standards of residents.
In addition to the mass wedding fund, N1 billion has been allocated for Ramadan feeding, and N955 million will be used for a survey on manpower statistics, household surveys, and data collection on out-of-school children. Furthermore, N1.049 billion has been set aside for purchasing printing machines, rehabilitating the water system, and acquiring library equipment for the Government Printing Press.
Shanono also highlighted other budget allocations, including N267.6 million for infrastructure improvements, production of an Islamic calendar, and support for Islamic Da’wah programs, as well as welfare packages for new converts to Islam.
Other notable allocations include N589 million for security research and empowerment programs, and funds to address street begging.
N200 million has also been earmarked for office furniture procurement, maintenance of the accountant-general’s office, and development of financial management software.
The 2025 budget, which stands at N719.75 billion, reflects a 31% increase from the previous year’s N549.16 billion proposal submitted by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The recurrent expenditure is N262.67 billion, while capital expenditure has been increased to N457.08 billion marking a 65% rise compared to the 2024 budget.
