The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has ordered an immediate and thorough investigation into allegations of criminal activities, including theft, within the Okere Correctional Centre in Warri, Delta State.

The directive follows recent media reports exposing alleged misconduct at the facility.

Condemning the reported infractions, the minister, in a statement by his aide, Babatunde Alao, on Tuesday, reaffirmed his zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline and misconduct, warning that anyone found culpable would face severe consequences.

“I will not allow indiscipline to fester under my nose. Any officer found wanting will face the full weight of the law. The leadership of the Nigerian Correctional Service must provide explanations,” Tunji-Ojo declared.

Reiterating his commitment to integrity, transparency, and accountability, he assured the public that the government remains steadfast in enforcing discipline within the nation’s correctional facilities.

“We take these allegations seriously and will not tolerate any form of misconduct within our correctional facilities,” he added.

The minister also called on members of the public to provide any relevant information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
