The newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda has moved into her office on Monday, amidst heightened security at the Assembly Complex.

The development comes as her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, continues to insist that he remains the Speaker, despite his removal by the majority of House members on January 13, 2025.

The Assembly Complex was cordoned off by security personnel, with journalists and other visitors subjected to rigorous screening before being allowed entry.

Recall that Obasa has denied the allegations, challenging the lawmakers to substantiate their claims.

“I remain the Speaker of the House,” he said on Saturday.

Meranda’s assumption of office was marked by a prayer session, with supporters praising God and praying for her success.

The new Speaker has presided over two sittings of the House since Obasa’s removal, with the former Speaker absent from both sessions.
