The oath-taking ceremony took place on Monday at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in the presence of several dignitaries and judicial figures.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s confirmation by the Senate last Wednesday paved the way for her elevation to the apex of Nigeria’s judiciary.

She now becomes the second woman to occupy the esteemed position, following in the footsteps of Justice Alooma Muktar, who served as CJN from 2012 to 2014.

The ceremony was a momentous occasion, witnessed by three of Justice Kekere-Ekun’s illustrious predecessors: Justice Alooma Muktar, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, and Justice Walter Onnoghen. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, her immediate predecessor, was also in attendance.

Justice Kekere-Ekun’s family, along with the other justices of the Supreme Court, were present to celebrate her achievement, marking the beginning of a new chapter for Nigeria’s judiciary.

Administering the oath of office, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law and maintaining public trust in governance.

He expressed confidence in Justice Kekere-Ekun’s ability to lead with integrity, fairness, and wisdom, as the country faces various legal and constitutional challenges.
