The Delta state command of the Nigeria Police Force has reiterated the ban on the use, sale, and display of fireworks and pyrotechnics, commonly known as “knock-out” and “banger.”

In a statement issued by the Delta State Police Command, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, emphasized that the ban is aimed at preventing criminal activities often associated with the misuse of fireworks during the Yuletide.

“Criminally minded persons can exploit the sound of fireworks to create panic and perpetrate crimes. To this end, we are strictly enforcing the ban to safeguard residents and ensure public peace,” the statement read.

Parents and guardians have been urged to caution their children and wards against using these prohibited items, while retailers are warned to refrain from displaying or selling them.

The police chief stated that those caught violating the directive will face arrest and prosecution.

To ensure compliance, CP Abaniwonda has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor their jurisdictions closely and address any breaches.

The police also called on citizens to support the enforcement of the ban by reporting the use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station or through the command’s control room numbers.

The Commissioner of Police thanked residents of Delta State for their cooperation and wished all Deltans a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
