BREAKING: Pep Guardiola Disagrees With Haaland’s Claim After Manchester City’s Loss to Aston Villa

4 hours ago 3

Pep Guardiola refuted comments from Erling Haaland after Manchester City’s alarming slump continued on Saturday afternoon.

The champions were beaten 2-1 by Aston Villa at Villa Park, leaving them with only one win in 12 games.

Former Manchester City youth star Morgan Rogers was the star of the show, setting up Jhon Duran in the first half before scoring a superb second after the break. Last season’s MVP, Phil Foden, scored his first of this season in stoppage time, but it was already too late.

Who did Haaland blame for Manchester City’s slump

After the game, Haaland faced reporters and appeared to blame himself for not performing at his usual level in recent games. The Norwegian phenom has only scored two goals in his last nine Premier League games.

“First, I’m looking at myself; I haven’t been doing things good enough; I haven’t been scoring my chances. I have to do better; I haven’t been good enough,” he said as quoted by MEN.

What Guardiola said about Haaland

Guardiola disagreed with the former Borussia Dortmund striker but liked how he took responsibility for their situation.

“I don’t agree with him. Without him, he would be even worse, but I like players to be that way. It’s the only chance we have to get better.”

Premier League top scorers

Despite the recent slump, Haaland still leads the Premier League top scorer rankings with 13 goals, the same as Mohamed Salah. Manchester City has dropped to sixth on the table with 27 points, nine behind leaders Liverpool, having played two games more.

They next play Everton on Boxing Day.
