The Police Service Commission has approved the appointment of new Commissioners of Police for the Taraba and Anambra State Commands.

The commission appointed Chukwudi Ariekpere from Abia State as the new Commissioner of Police for Taraba State, replacing CP Peter Oparah.

Similarly, Livingstein Orutugu from Bayelsa State has been appointed as the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, taking over from Obong Nnache Itam.

A statement released on Wednesday by the PSC spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, noted that the commission’s chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), urged the newly appointed commissioners to settle into their new roles promptly to prevent any security lapses.

“The new commissioners should quickly settle into their duty posts and ensure there is no gap that may lead to a breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.

Argungu also charged the newly appointed CPs to be dedicated and committed to their responsibilities, emphasising the need to combat the menace of bandits and criminals across the country.

“The commission will continue to monitor their conduct and provide necessary support to ensure they succeed in their new assignments,” he added.

He said the PSC’s decision had been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for immediate implementation.
