Kinsmen of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Chief Nyesom Wike, has expressed worries that Wike was referring to the same former governor of the state, Dr. Peter Odili, whom he had declared was responsible for his success in politics, pleading with Odili to forgive their brother Wike over his recent statement against him, as reported by VANGUARD.
Wike had accused Odili of personalizing Rivers State and claimed he restored political life to Odili and his family.
This statement followed an earlier comment by Odili, who indirectly criticized an unnamed individual, widely believed to be Wike, for attempting to dominate the state.
The Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership, a civil society group, described Wike’s statements as unnecessary.
Its President General, Barrister Chizy Enyi, who is also Wike’s kinsman, said Wike’s statements against Odili were inappropriate, especially since Odili’s earlier comment did not directly name him.
Enyi reminded the public that Wike had previously credited Odili and his wife with being instrumental to his success in politics and even vowed not to act in ways that would hurt their family.
However, Enyi expressed disappointment that Wike seems to have contradicted this promise.
Enyi also criticized Wike for going back on his word about never becoming a federal minister again.
He pointed out that Wike’s actions often do not connect with his statements, which has caused confusion and mistrust among some supporters.
The group accused Wike of trying to control the political resources and structure of Rivers State and referenced his ongoing issues with Governor Siminialayi Fubara as evidence of his attempts to dominate the state.
“He swore that any day, he would say anything that would make the family of Dr. Odili to cry, that God should not allow him to grow.”
“It is an obvious fact that the only Rivers man, living and dead, who has wanted to personalise Rivers State as his personal structure, is Nyesom Wike,” he said.
