Simon Ekpa Arrested in Finland Over Terror-Related Charges | Daily Report Nigeria

Finnish authorities have arrested Simon Ekpa, a prominent Nigerian separatist agitator, on charges related to terrorism.

Ekpa, who claims the title of “Prime Minister” of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, was taken into custody along with four others for their alleged involvement in financing terrorist activities and inciting violence.

The Central Criminal Police of Finland confirmed the arrests on Thursday, revealing that Ekpa is suspected of public incitement to commit crimes with terrorist intent.

According to the police, Ekpa used his social media platforms to encourage violent actions against civilians and authorities in Southeastern Nigeria, actions which have raised international concerns.

“The man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels,” Hiltunen explained.

Ekpa, who holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and Finland, has been a controversial figure due to his advocacy for Biafran independence and his role in promoting separatist violence.

The four other suspects arrested in connection with Ekpa are accused of providing financial support to the violent movements, although their identities have not been publicly disclosed.

The suspects were remanded by the Päijät-Häme district court on November 21, with detention hearings taking place that day.
