Southern Kaduna Senatorial Zone is expected to get yet another dividend of democracy with nine solar-powered boreholes, barely a month after the establishment of a Federal University in the region.

The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs) announced the award of the contract to CWM Contracting Ltd., stating that the company will construct the boreholes with mini treatment plants.

The project, costing a total of N194,678,750, is expected to be completed within eight weeks of contract formalization.

This significant development project is courtesy of the visit by the Lord Mayor of Leeds City and his wife, Distinguished Senator Barr. Sunday Marshall Katung, the lawmaker representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District.

The project facilities are expected to be installed at various strategic locations within the senatorial district to improve access to clean water, meeting the yearnings and aspirations of residents.

In a statement signed by the Head of Procurement, Usman A. Shuaibu, said that the OSSAP-SDGs Tenders Board approved the project during its September 2024 meeting.

The different locations pictured for the installation of the solar plants include:
School of Nursing, College of Education, Jema’a LGA, Federal School of Statistics, Manchok, Kaura LGA, Antong, Kachia LGA, Zitti Community, Bakin Kasuwa Zango Urban, Zonkwa Market, Zango Kataf LGA, Gauta Community and Madakiya Central.

Usman emphasized that there will be strict adherence to the contract terms, which include no advance or interim payments and a fixed, non-transferable agreement.

The contractor is required to formally accept the offer within three days and coordinate with the Sustainable Projects Unit and Legal Unit of OSSAP-SDGs for further specifications and contract formalization.
