BREAKING: Tinubu reshuffles leadership in Federal Universities, renames UniAbuja

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced major leadership changes across several federal universities, including the University of Abuja, which has now been renamed Yakubu Gowon University.

The restructuring, effective immediately, includes the dissolution of the governing council at Yakubu Gowon University and the removal of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as Vice-Chancellor.

Key appointments include:

Senator Lanre Tejuoso (Pro-Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Makurdi) → Now Pro-Chancellor, Yakubu Gowon University.

Professor Lar Patricia Manko → Appointed Acting Vice-Chancellor, Yakubu Gowon University (six-month term) (ineligible for permanent role).

Professor Polycarp Emeka Chigbu (Acting VC, UNN) → Removed before tenure expiry (Feb 14).

Professor Oguejiofu T. Ujam → Appointed Acting VC, UNN (six-month term, ineligible for permanent role).

Gen. Ike Nwachukwu (Pro-Chancellor, UNN) → Now Pro-Chancellor, University of Uyo.

Engineer Olubunmi Kayode Ojo → Appointed Pro-Chancellor, UNN.

Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdullahi (Pro-Chancellor, University of Uyo) → Now Pro-Chancellor, Federal University of Lokoja.

Senator Sani Stores → Pro-Chancellor, Alvan Ikoku University of Education.

Barrister Olugbenga Kukoyi → Pro-Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

President Tinubu stated that these leadership changes aim to revitalise Nigeria’s higher education system, ensuring strong governance, academic excellence, and accountability.
