An airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force on Saturday mistakenly hit operatives of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guard (ZSCPG), local vigilantes, and residents of Tungar Kara in Maradun Local Government Area, Zamfara State.

The attack, meant to target fleeing bandits who had just raided the community, tragically claimed at least 20 lives.

Sources revealed to Daily Post that the incident occurred shortly after the bandits fled the area.

Local vigilantes and residents, who had mobilized to defend the community, were caught in the strike.

As of now, 16 bodies have been recovered, with the final death toll expected to rise as rescue efforts continue.

The strike, intended to neutralize the bandits, instead caused widespread devastation in the community, leaving residents grieving and demanding accountability.

“We have lost our loved ones and protectors. The government must investigate this tragic mistake and support the affected families,” one distraught resident said.

Military authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
