Former Kano State Governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has challenged political parties in the country to put forward their best candidates in the 2027 presidential elections.
Shekarau stressed that emphasis should not be placed on the zone that would produce the next President.
He also refused to specify his stand on a southern presidency or if power should return to northern Nigeria in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the former Governor said Nigerians would choose from whoever the parties put forward, saying even if they all give evil candidates, then Nigerians would choose the best evil.
“All the parties should come up with their planning in a situation whereby they make the best of choices. But for Nigerians now to decide, our concern is that let look at the candidates produced by the parties.
“Our challenge is that all the parties should give Nigerians correct candidates so we have the best to choose from. But if you give us all evils, we will choose the best from the evils,” he stated.
On the recent #EndBadGovernance protests, Shekarau said the protest is a clear message that the federal government needs to return to the drawing table and reconsider what it’s offering to Nigerians.
He stressed that the protest, which took place in August, was not a regional or state affair, but a clear message to the government of President Bola Tinubu from the citizens.
“The last protests on the end of bad governance is a clear message. The agitation was not a regional, state affair. It was a national matter. I think it’s a very clear message to the President and the Federal Government.
“Nigerians are saying ‘please go back to the drawing board and reassess what you are giving us,” Shekarau said.
