Senate President Godswill Akpabio has explained why President Bola Tinubu appointed Nyesom Wike as the Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
He said that despite Wike being from the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), President Tinubu recognized his great work as the governor of Rivers State.
Akpabio praised Wike for turning Abuja into a major construction site in just two years.
Speaking at a book launch for Wike’s 57th birthday in Port Harcourt, Akpabio praised Wike’s hard work and commitment to his duties.
He mentioned that Wike’s leadership, from his time as a local government chairman to being a governor, made him the right person for the job.
Akpabio also acknowledged Wike’s dedication to improving infrastructure, education, and sports, and recognized the support of Wike’s family in his journey.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio said Wike in two years has transformed the capital city with projects.
“Let me tell you why you were nominated into the FEC by President Tinubu despite being an opposition politician.
“Your performance, as a local government chairman, Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Government, Minister and two-term governor gave you the job.
“You have made us proud as the FCT minister. You have turned Abuja into a model city befitting the capital of a country. You are a very committed public officer who has no room for excuses on any given task.
“In less than two years, you have turned Abuja into a huge construction site,” he said.
