One of Nigeria’s leading consistent parties, the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), has successfully conducted a seamless nationwide congress, electing a new National Working Committee (NWC) to steer its affairs in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The congress, held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Abuja, culminated in the swearing-in and Oath of Office of the newly elected officials. The ZLP has injected young, dynamic leaders into the system, strengthening its structure ahead of the elections.

Speaking to the media after the Oath-taking ceremony, the proactive National Chairman, Barrister Dan Nwanyanwu, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to internal unity, grassroots mobilization, and credible political leadership. He emphasized that the new leadership would work tirelessly to enhance the party’s structures and position it as a formidable alternative in the 2027 elections.

Addressing party members, Barr. Nwanyanwu stressed the importance of unity within the ZLP, noting that internal cohesion is critical to achieving the party’s political goals.

According to him, “Our strength as a party rests in our unity. We must set aside personal interests and work together for the progress of the Zenith Labour Party. We are not just a political organization; we are a movement for credible governance in Nigeria.”

He urged party members to remain focused and dedicated, assuring them that the new NWC would prioritize engagement with party faithful at all levels.

Debunks Allegations of Financial Inducement from APC

During the press briefing, the ZLP Chairman also addressed allegations made by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which accused the party of receiving ₦50 million from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to weaken opposition ranks.

Barr. Nwanyanwu described the allegation as false and baseless, dismissing the claim as an attempt to distract the public from real governance issues.

“Let it be clear: The Zenith Labour Party is not for sale. We have not received one naira from the APC, nor have we been influenced by President Tinubu or any other political actor. Our commitment is to the Nigerian people, and we will continue to advocate for a transparent and people-driven political process.”

He further challenged the PDP to provide evidence to support its claim, insisting that ZLP remains an independent and progressive party determined to contest the 2027 elections on its own merits.

ZLP Unveils Roadmap for 2027 Elections

As the newly elected NWC settles into office, the party leadership has unveiled a roadmap toward the 2027 elections, focusing on youth engagement, policy advocacy, and massive grassroots mobilization.

Barr. Nwanyanwu assured Nigerians that ZLP would present credible candidates and offer alternative solutions to Nigeria’s governance challenges.

“In 2027, we are not just going to contest; we are preparing to lead at all levels. The people of Nigeria deserve better governance, and ZLP is ready to provide that alternative with the quality of candidates we will present,” he stated.

He also called on Nigerians to join the party’s movement for change, assuring that the ZLP would work to ensure a fair and democratic electoral process.

The nationwide congress marks a significant milestone for the Zenith Labour Party as it positions itself for a stronger political presence ahead of the 2027 elections. With its new leadership in place, the party aims to challenge the political status quo while reinforcing its vision of inclusive governance, accountability, and development-driven politics.
