By-election: PDP, APC take battle to Edo Central

The Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have intensified their campaigns to villages in Edo Central Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s by-election.

Both political parties have vowed to secure victory in all the five local government areas.

Governor Monday Okpeholo and Asue Ighodalo are leading the campaigns of their respective political parties.

The vacant Edo Central Senatorial seat was previously occupied by Governor Okpebholo before he was elected Governor.

Candidate of the PDP, Prince Joe Okojie, who spoke at campaign rally of the PDP in Uromi and other adjoining villages said he would be victorius in all thr five local government areas.

He told the electorates that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have no option than to do the right thing.

He said, “I am pretty confident that the PDP will prevail and if I am not sure that we can beat our opposition I will not be in the race. I think my chances are pretty high.

“I will win all five local government areas that make up the constituency and INEC has no choice but to do the right thing. I am confident that they will do the needful

“People often misconstrue what legislative duties are about however, I reckon that when you are in the senate, you will be able to put a thing or two in the budget and there are quite a number projects that I have highlighted that I think needs immediate attention, If you look at our senatorial district all the federal roads need attention, I am campaigning through the length and breadth of Esan land I realised that it is virtually impossible to move from point A to point B so my first assignment will be to see how I can prevail on the federal ministry of works to pay attention to these roads and see what it can do to alleviate the suffering s of my people.

“I am disposed to setting up skills acquisition centres so that people can learn skills.”

Governor Okpebholo, who led the PDP campaigns, said his administration has performed beyond people’s expectations.

Okpebholo assured that the first fly over in the state would be completed in 2026.

He said the election would mark total demise of the PDP in the state.
