Change of name no longer required for redeployment, says NYSC | Daily Report Nigeria

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has taken a progressive step in its ongoing efforts to accommodate the needs of married female corps members by removing the requirement to change their maiden names for redeployment requests.

This groundbreaking decision, issued through a circular dated November 25, 2024, is set to significantly ease the process for married women seeking redeployment for reasons such as family relocation.

The directive, signed by Abubakar Mohammed, the NYSC Director of Corps Mobilisation, came as part of a broader review of the criteria for concessional deployment and relocation.

According to the circular, “Changing a maiden name to that of a spouse is no longer a requirement for the approval of such requests by married female corps members.”

The new policy emphasizes that while the name change is no longer mandatory, other existing requirements for redeployment requests will remain unchanged.

This update is expected to reduce the administrative burden on married female corps members, who had previously faced the additional challenge of legally altering their names as part of the redeployment process.

The NYSC management has instructed all State and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Coordinators to ensure strict compliance with the new policy.
