The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended four senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service amidst allegations of bribery and misconduct.
The suspension comes after a voice note shared by Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, in which Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, claimed that after his conviction and sentencing for abuse of the naira notes in April, his godfather, in collaboration with the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private apartment.
The suspended officers include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, Lagos State; Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of MSCC, Kirikiri, Lagos State; Ogbule Obinna, Assistant Superintendent of Corrections serving at the MSCC, Afikpo, Ebonyi State; and Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje-Abuja.

According to the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspension is to allow for further investigation into the allegations against the officers.
Ahmed said, “The suspension of these os is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.”
