Council of Knights of St. Mulumba

Owerri Metropolitan Council of Knights of St. Mulumba has honoured a member, Sir John Oleru, for his dedication, commitment and exemplary life.

The honour was conferred on August 9 at a reception at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, where 127 members were elevated to the Fourth Degree of the Order.

Presenting the award, Supreme Knight, Sir Charles Mbelede, said Sir Oleru is devoted not only to the Order but also to living and transmitting the faith through his family.

A former Catechist at Maria Assumpta, Sir Oleru joined the Order on September 27, 1987, and has distinguished himself in service and leadership.

Beyond his personal contributions, Sir Oleru is admired for building a faith-driven family. A father of seven, four of his sons – Paschal, Augustine, Martin, and another – are members of the Knights of St. Mulumba. His fifth son, Rev. Bernard, was ordained 18 years ago in the Missionary Society of St. Paul, and serves as Chaplain in the Knights of St. Columbus, United States. His daughters are also noted for upholding strong Catholic values.

Commending the awardee, Metro Grand Knight of Owerri Metro Council, Sir Eva Njemanze, urged other knights to emulate Sir Oleru’s example of leading families into the faith.

He said Sir Oleru’s legacy proves that true commitment to the Church and Order begins at home and extends into the wider community.
