…launches operation ‘keep traffic moving’
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, (CP), Ajao Adewale, has cautioned traffic officers against unprofessional conduct.
Adewale gave the warning at the weekend while lecturing all Divisional Traffic Officers, Motor Traffic Police (MOTOPOL), and other traffic officers at the Command Headquarters.
During the lecture, the CP expressed dissatisfaction with the current performance level of traffic officers, stressing the need for a renewed sense of duty.
He emphasised that traffic is one of the visible indicators to measure the civility of a city, while traffic officers remain the first image of the police in any environment.
The CP warned them to maintain high standards of discipline and shun all unethical behaviors that can cause negative public perception of the Force in general and the Command in particular.
The CP, who personally toured the city during the previous week to observe traffic flow at peak hours, highlighted 30 key traffic hotspots across the FCT, including Wuse, Area 1 Roundabout, Jikwoyi, Karu, Kurudu, AYA, Apo Resettlement, Gudu, Galadima, Dawaki, Kubwa, among others.
He tasked officers to ensure visibility at these points to guarantee free flow of traffic at all times.

Adewale charged them to raise their standards and deliver quality service by ensuring neat turnout, early presence at traffic points, effective management during peak periods, and prompt clearance of obstructions.
He further directed officers to clamp down on those in the habit of driving against traffic, as well as indiscriminate picking and dropping of passengers on the highways.
Condemning the unprofessional practice of jumping into vehicles of traffic offenders or attempting to seize control of their steering wheels, the CP described such actions as dangerous, unacceptable, and contrary to the ethics of policing.
While rounding off the lecture, the CP declared the immediate commencement of Operation “Keep Traffic Flowing” and created a surveillance team to monitor the activities of all traffic officers, with strict instructions to arrest any officer found violating these directives.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the FCT Police Public Relations officer, SP Josphine Adeh, the CP enjoined members of the public to obey traffic regulations, respect traffic officers on duty, and desist from offering money or inducements to officers, as such acts are inappropriate and unlawful.
