PDP Vows to Take Legal Action | Daily Report Nigeria

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to explore all legal avenues to challenge the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

According to PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum at a press conference on Monday, the result was “a travesty of democracy.”

Damagum stressed that the party will also use democratic ways to challenge the declaration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the winner.

He made the above statement hours after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Okpebholo
had secured 291,667 votes, ahead of PDP’s Asue Ighodalo with 247,274 votes and Labour Party (LP)’s Olumide Akpata with 22,763 votes.

The PDP chairman alleged “a sinister plot” by the APC to subvert the election, involving government-controlled agencies, security operatives, and INEC officials.

He claimed that despite warnings from the PDP, the APC had “viciously trampled on the votes of the people” and flouted the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines.

Damagum said:

The PDP unequivocally rejects the final result as declared by INEC, as it did not reflect the expressed will and aspiration of the people.”

He made the statement while demanding a review of the election and the announcement of results based on genuine votes cast at polling units.
