
Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 17 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud during sting operations carried out in parts of Ilorin and Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The arrests were made on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, following credible intelligence linking the suspects to cybercrime-related activities in the state.
The coordinated raids took place in the Asa Dam axis, Al-Hikmah University area, and Gaa-Odota community of Ilorin, as well as in Ganmo and Amoyo areas under Ifelodun LGA.

According to the EFCC, several items were recovered from the suspects during the operation. These include three luxury vehicles, a number of sophisticated mobile phones, and several laptops believed to have been used in the perpetration of fraudulent activities.
This recent crackdown comes shortly after a similar operation last week that led to the arrest of 47 suspected internet fraudsters in the same regions, also based on actionable intelligence.
The commission has confirmed that all 17 suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Damaturu, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity in the state.
