The Federal Government has sanctioned an increase in the monthly allowance for Corps Members to N77,000, effective from July 2024.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Caroline Embu, spokesperson for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), announced that this increment aligns with the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.
Embu referenced a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024 and signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta.
Embu said:
“Prior to this, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had conducted an advocacy visit to the Chairman, during which he advocated for a comprehensive welfare package for Corps Members.

“The NYSC Chief is grateful to the Federal Government for this timely gesture and is hopeful that it will not only provide much-needed relief to Corps Members but also enhance their morale and motivate them to further excel in their service to the nation.”
Previously, Corps Members received a monthly allowance of N33,000.
In 2020, the NYSC had increased the allowances from N19,800 to N33,000 following the signing of a new minimum wage bill of N30,000.
In late July, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law, concluding months of discussions between government officials, labour unions, and the private sector.
Tinubu signed the bill at the State House in Abuja, just days after the National Assembly passed the Minimum Wage Act, 2019, which raised the National Minimum Wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
