Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

“On getting to the scene of the incident we met a variety store that was engulfed by fire, we quickly swung into action and dosed the fire within the shortest period of time, and educated people on fire prevention in our community,” Akinwande said.

He further noted, “No casualty was recorded but the fire affected only one shop in the complex. The fire was as a result of a power surge. The appliance returned to the station by 22:50hrs, and on standby.”

While no lives were lost, the inferno left significant damage to goods and properties in the affected store.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested seven individuals in connection with an assault on officials of the Lagos Parking Authority (LASPA).

The arrests were confirmed in a statement by LASPA’s General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, who alleged that the attack was carried out by some staff members and security personnel attached to Better Mart on Badore Road, off Addo Road in Ajah, as well as Ashley Mall in Epe.
